Welcome to our retail staff page.

At Tortuga Bay we are extremely  proud of the retail and instructional staff who represent us.  Please allow us to introduce our retail family.

Ron Bland

Ron is the president of Tortuga Bay.  He has been a certified diver since the early 1980's and involved in ownership of a full service scuba business since 1987.  Ron works full time at Tortuga Bay and can be found most every day serving customer needs on the retail floor or with equipment  and training issues.  Ron is a certified equipment technician for all the product lines Tortuga Bay carries.  His extensive background in the scuba business allows him to council potential buyers on all aspects of the equipment and it's use.

First and foremost however, Ron is a scuba diver.  Being a water lover all his life he got his first taste of the ocean in the early 80's while snorkeling in Hawaii.  That led to becoming a certified diver and many more trips to exotic destinations.  In 1987 Ron became a scuba instructor.  Currently he holds Instructor  ratings with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI)  Scuba Diving International (SDI), Technical Diving International (TDI) and Scuba Schools International (SSI).  Ron has trained and certified thousands of divers over the years from the open water diver level through various instructor levels and was awarded the Platinum Pro 5000 Instructor award in 2001.

Jeremy Bland

Jeremy got his start in the world of scuba at an early age.  He received his original certification when he turned twelve years old.  Since then he has traveled the world diving various tropical destinations.

Jeremy works full time at Tortuga Bay.  Jeremy is a factory certified equipment technician on all the products carried by Tortuga Bay and does most of the service work on equipment.   Jeremy is also well qualified to discuss and council you on the features and function of all the products we sell.

Jeremy too has a passion for the world underwater.  From his original Jr. Open Water Diver certification, Jeremy has worked his way up the ladder and through the leadership levels to his current instructor ratings with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), Scuba Diving International (SDI), Technical Diving International(TDI) and Scuba Schools International (SSI).    Along the way Jeremy has accumulated hundreds of dives and earned many specialty ratings.  Today Jeremy serves as General Manager and Director of Training for Tortuga Bay.

Sue Myers

Sue works part time on our retail floor.

Sue has been diving since the late 90's.  Soon after becoming a certified diver, Sue continued her education and earned ratings for many specialties, including dry suit.  One of Sue's goals is to dive in Alaska.  Although she hasn't dove Alaska yet she has traveled to many other exotic dive destinations.  Along the way she has acquired a good deal of knowledge about equipment, diving skills and her main passion, underwater photography.

Before becoming a scuba diver, Sue became an accomplished land photographer.  A natural extension of this then was to take up underwater photography.  You will find many of Sue's photos on the pages of our web site.

Today, Sue is an Assistant Instructor  and assists with many of our classes.

Stephanie Druva

Stephanie has been part of our staff for just a short period of time but she has definitely immersed herself into the world of scuba.

Stephanie began her scuba diving through the course offered at UNC.  She did her open water dives at the Blue Hole in October of 2007.  She didn't stop there.  Since then, Stephanie has earned her SDI Adventure Advanced rating and conquered the art of dry suit diving.  In January Stephanie completed her training for the PADI Rescue Diver rating.  Currently, Stephanie is well on her way to earning the prestigious PADI Divemaster rating.  Her goal is to move up the ladder all the way through the leadership levels and join our training staff.

Stephanie can be found several days and evenings a week on our retail floor.  She has read most of the manuals on equipment and has a good base of knowledge on the various types of equipment we carry.

Katie Lewis

Katie joined our retail staff in the summer of 2007.  Her initial taste of scuba was taking an intro to scuba course.  From that point on, she was hooked.  Katie went on to complete her open water certifications in December 2007 at the Blue Hole.

Katie can be found several days or evenings a week on our retail floor.  She will greet you with a big smile and assist you with any of your retail needs.  She is very knowledgeable on most of the products we carry.

Like Stephanie, Katie has the scuba bug.  Now that she has  her Open Water Diver rating she plans to continue her education with the goal of attaining her professional ratings.

AND, THE most popular of our retail staff........

Nico

Nico can be found Monday through Friday on the retail floor.  He is the official greeter for Tortuga Bay and enjoys meeting all of our customers.

Nico began his career in scuba as a pup.  His love for water and fellow divers can not be equaled.  When not standing guard in the shallow water watching for divers to surface, Nico enjoys retrieving objects divers throw and playing catch.  He is especially partial to those who bring treats for him.  Nico is certified to the highest levels by the International Association of Diving Dogs (IADD).
