Scuba diving is a wonderful sport and one that can be enjoyed for a lifetime. It is also a great family activity.
At Tortuga Bay we want your scuba experience to be as simple and pleasurable as possible. We therefore offer you the ability to complete the academic requirements to become a certified Open Water Scuba Diver three ways. Click on your choice to find out more.
Once you have completed the academics you will need to complete the confined water training portion of the course and finally the Open Water Evaluations. To find out more about these phases and your options, follow the links below.
On Line courses are available to make the academic portion of your course as convenient as possible. With the on line course you simply log onto the site and all your training materials will be waiting for you. To access the on line training you will need an access code. You can acquire one of these by contacting Tortuga Bay, or simply going on line and registering. Follow this link to the selection of on line courses offered through Tortuga Bay.
Our home study format gives you the ability to do all your academic course work at your own pace and in the comfort and privacy of your own home. This means you can start your scuba adventure at any time. Simply stop into our facility and purchase your course kit. It will include the course video or DVD, manual, logbook and dive tables. You then read all the chapters in the manual, watch the corresponding chapters on the video, answer some work study questions and you are then ready schedule time to take your final and take your confined water training.
Weekend classes are conveniently offered every month throughout the year. You will meet both Saturday and Sunday for an academic overview and lots of in water activity. With this option you will still utilize the home study format for the academic so we can minimize the classroom time and maximize the fun part, the confined water time.
The Confined Water Training is available two ways. If you choose either the on line course, or the home study course, you may schedule your confined water sessions to meet your particular schedule. If your schedule will allow this training to be conducted between the normal business hours of 10AM to 5PM Monday through Friday we can arrange for private training for the same cost as a normal group lesson. After hours or weekends can also be scheduled as private lessons but at additional cost.
You can also complete your confined water training in the traditional weekend schedule format. With this you will be part of a small group and will complete all necessary skills in a two day period.
The Open Water Evaluation is the final stage of the training process. This process can be completed in many locations world wide. It consists of a series of 4 underwater scuba dives and 1 optional snorkel dive. This portion will take a minimum of 2 days to complete. Tortuga Bay offers Open Water Certifications on a monthly basis. Please follow this link to our schedules.
